Thursday, 21 March 2024We had seven volunteers join us to clean up litter in one of our revegetation areas in Badger Creek on Sun 3 March. Volunteers represented our landcare group, Healesville Environment Watch Inc, the Badger Creek Community, Healesville Scouts and Healesville Rotary. MP Cindy McLeish joined us, too. We collected two bags of rubbish, one of recycling, a mattress protector, basketball, and a broken garden ornament (from the creek). Two large piles of Calystegia were removed from our growing plants - this garden escapee smothers shrubs and prevents them growing up nice and straight.
Thursday, 21 March 2024We had a platypus survey training evening in Warburton on 18 March with Healesville Environment Watch Inc and members of the Warburton community. 13 volunteers came along to learn how to survey and record sightings. Whilst we saw no platypus that night, one of the volunteers tried the technique on Tuesday and recorded one near the tennis courts, with great footage of it popping up to the surface. We also recorded the birds and frogs we saw/heard on the night. We look forward to more animals being recorded and sightings uploaded to iNaturalist. This event was funded by a Yarra Ranges Council Community Partnership grant.
